# Custom fields for applicants

> Add your own fields to applicant profiles, and choose which ones applicants fill in on your application form.

Custom fields let you record information about applicants that Enfue doesn't track by default. Use them in two ways:

* **Ask applicants**: show the field on your application form, for example **Your years of relevant experience to this position** or **Rate your English proficiency in both verbal and written communication**.
* **For your team only**: keep the field off the form and fill it in yourselves, for example **Candidate ranking** or **Onboarding**.

Open **Settings → Custom Fields for Applicants**.

## Your custom fields

| Column | What it shows |
| - | - |
| **Name** | The field's name, as applicants or your team see it. |
| **Type** | The kind of answer, such as **Text** or **Multi selection**. |
| **Date created** | When the field was added. |
| **Show in form for applicant** | **Yes** if applicants see it on the application form. |
| **Action** | Click the pencil to edit the field, or the bin to delete it. |

## Add a custom field

1. Click **Add custom field**.
2. Enter a **Field name**.
3. Choose a **Field type**:
   * **Text**: a free-text answer.
   * **Date**: a date.
   * **Multi select**: one or more options from a list you set.
   * **Star rating**: a rating out of 5 stars.
4. Tick **Show in the application form** if applicants should fill it in.
5. Click **Add**.

Applicants' answers appear on the **Additional Info** tab of their [profile](/hiring/applicants/applicant-profile#profile-details), and you can show each field as a column on the [Applicants](/hiring/applicants/overview#customize-the-columns) page.

  Keep the application form short. Every extra question means fewer people finish applying, so only ask applicants for what you'll actually use to decide.
